Ohio’s America 250 suggested theme for May is to celebrate art: We’ll focus on art in our collection and the artists that created it. We have put together a program based on the art objects contained in our collection and the artists that created them. Examples include sculptures, paintings, watercolors, ceramics, furniture, etc. We’ll have objects at the program and will have a larger display at our Cryder Research Center during May. Other objects are on long-term display at our Meeker and Nash House Museums. We will also recognize long-time Delaware resident and woven fiber artist Katie Schmitt. Katie began weaving in the late 1960’s. Later she began taking commissions for tapestries from clients such as the Worthington Presbyterian Church. She joined the Studios on High co-op in the Short North where she had her upright tapestry loom set up in the front window. We’ll have a slideshow with examples of her artistry. Katie recently donated one of her favorite tapestries to our collection. Attendees will also receive a Art Journey Log that contains a list of art-related destinations in both the City of Delaware and in Delaware County. Get out during the nice Spring weather and visit as many as you can.
